What is constructive discharge?

Constructive discharge is a term for when an employer takes an action against an employee that, in effect, “forces” the employee to quit. An employer may intentionally cut your salary with the intent to incite you to leave, or perhaps change your hours to those which he or she knows you cannot work. The action must be so extreme than any reasonable employee, if under the same circumstances, would have quit as well.
