Victoria firefighters terminated for displaying nude photos

by Administrator 11. April 2011 01:20

Two Victoria firefighters were recently terminated from their positions with the fire department after a complaint was filed that they had been displaying nude and sexually suggestive photographs in the station.  After the complaint was filed in March, investigators looked into it and found that the firefighters had a montage of around 10 photos of nude men posing provacatively on display at the department.

"Harassment doesn't stem from sexual attraciton, as is commonly thought.  It usually stems from a desire on the part of the harasser to demonstrate power over the victim, to show that they have the ability to intimidate, demean, denigrate, or shame another individual," said a University of Houston-Victoria criminal justice professor.

The city has protected the identities of the two firefighters.  City officials noted that the two were fired for violating Victoria's conduct policies.
