Continental Airlines Inc. announced last month that it will cut 1,700 jobs and boost fees for checked luggage. The recent job cut comes after Continental reported second-quarter losses and decreased air traffic, as its revenue declined 22.7%.
The job loss will account for 3.4% of Continental's total employee base. Before the recent cuts, Continental announced plans to lay off 500 reservation agents and put 700 flight attendants on leave.
The plan to increase checked luggage fees will likely amount to a $5 raise.
