On March 3rd, a former employee of Basic Energy Services filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the company in South Texas federal court. In the lawsuit, Tonia Martinets, a former staff assistant at Basic Energy Services, claims that her immediate supervisor, Eduardo Ortiz, subjected her to sexual harassment in the workplace.
Furthermore, the suit states that the harassment began in August of 2008. Ortiz is accused of inquiring about Martinets' dating history, making sexually suggestive comments toward her and asking her to bring in sexy pictures for him. After her complaints were ingnored by the company's South Texas Region Human Resources manager, Martinets filed a complaint with Basic Energy Services' corporate office.
Two days after filing the complaint with corporate, Martinets was terminated from her position. The EEOC has concluded that Martinets and other female employees were subjected to sexual harassment by Ortiz and that management terminated her in retaliation for issuing a complaint.
