Over 200 sue Turner Industries for racial discrimination

by Administrator 8. February 2011 10:07

230 Turner Industries employees have filed suit against the company for racial discrimination after they say the EEOC failed to do anything to protect them.  The workers collected evidence of the discrimination at Turner Industries' facilities for two years.  Employees in the suit work in places like Paris, Texas, Lake Charles, Louisiana and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where the company is headquartered.

According to the 300 page lawsuit, employees faced segregation and some were taunted with hangman's nooses at their place of employment.  In addition, the suit says that several African American employees were mocked by being given the day after the 2008 presidential election off, rather than the day of, to go vote.

One former Turner Industries employee, Ethel Jones, said of the discrimination, "I worked hard all my life and I can say I know I didn't deserve that."
