Can You Prove That Discrimination Occurred?

When a person is turned down for a promotion or raise, they may believe that some personal factor was taken into account. If these personal decisions amount to a loss of job opportunities because of gender, race, ethnicity, or some other legally-protected trait, a person may want to consider legal action in the form of a discrimination lawsuit against their employer. However, getting evidence for a discrimination lawsuit can prove very difficult.

If you’ve been passed over for a job opportunity due to discrimination, you may be able to pursue compensation from your employer for their wrongdoing. For more information about how we may be able to help you with this process, contact the Houston discrimination lawyers of the Ross Law Group today by calling 713-482-6910.

How Do You Find Proof?

If a person believes that they were discriminated against, they may not actually have proof to back up those claims. However, this doesn’t mean that their hunch is necessarily wrong. There are some steps that they can take to find out more about their rejection. These steps include the following:

  • Ask what they can do to improve their work, as if to be considered for more opportunities.
  • Don’t talk poorly about the recipient of the promotion or raise.
  • Talk to the company’s human resources department.
  • File a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Obviously, any proof that becomes available throughout the process may be used to validate or dispute any claims of discrimination. If a person still can’t find any information about the rejection, they may want to consider the EEOC as a final option.
