Accommodating Religious Requests

The law outlines several instances in which an employer can be held responsible for religious discrimination. In part, an employer is required to follow an employee’s requests regarding their religious beliefs that are properly filed in the correct format. An employer who does not provide for a reasonable request may be held responsible for the hardship of their affected employees.

If you have faced discrimination in the workplace because of your religious beliefs, you are not alone. We can help you fight back against this unfair treatment. Filing a Request

The United States Constitution provides for religious freedoms throughout the nation. When it comes to employment law, this religious freedom translates into protection from outright discrimination in the workplace. However, an employee is responsible for informing an employer when their actions may be offensive or fail to accommodate for all faiths.

To request a change in company policy, an employee should follow this outline:

  • The religious beliefs must be sincerely held by the employee
  • The request cannot lead to undue hardship at the workplace for others
  • The request cannot be unreasonable in terms of productivity or expense
  • The request cannot be asked under falsely religious pretenses

A request can be measured against the type of work done by the employee as well as the size of the company. If a company simply cannot afford to accommodate a particular request, the employer may be permitted to reject that request.
