Sign #1: You Are Repeatedly Asked into Meetings by Yourself
A supervisor may intentionally try to pull you into their office to isolate you. The following meetings may be a precursor to sexual harassment:
- Meetings occur on a semi-regular basis,
- Meetings generally cover little to no meaningful information, and
- Meetings only include you and your supervisor.
In these situations, you may want to be especially alert for any inappropriate comments or invitations to events outside of work.
Sign #2: Your Coworkers or Supervisors Use Inappropriate Language or Behavior
While you may think that your coworkers or supervisors are just trying to be humorous, an inappropriate, sexually offensive joke may be considered a form of sexual harassment. More direct language can be a more obvious sign of sexual harassment. If any unwanted contact is made, you should report this immediately.

Even if your supervisor frames the event as a work-related event, you should be especially wary of any invitations that result in you and your supervisor spending a large amount of time by yourselves outside of the workplace. These invitations may be an unwanted advance under the guise of a work-related event.
