3 Signs of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is a serious issue that affects many workplaces. Supervisors may try to take advantage of their power in the workplace or a coworker may make inappropriate advances towards another. While in the workplace, this sort of behavior is considered illegal and may even be grounds for lawsuit against an employer.

If you feel that you have been harassed while on the job and you need legal help with your case, we may be able to help you. For additional information regarding our legal services, contact a Houston sexual harassment lawyer of the Ross Law Group today by calling 713-482-6910.

Sign #1: You Are Repeatedly Asked into Meetings by Yourself

A supervisor may intentionally try to pull you into their office to isolate you. The following meetings may be a precursor to sexual harassment:

  • Meetings occur on a semi-regular basis,
  • Meetings generally cover little to no meaningful information, and
  • Meetings only include you and your supervisor.

In these situations, you may want to be especially alert for any inappropriate comments or invitations to events outside of work.

Sign #2: Your Coworkers or Supervisors Use Inappropriate Language or Behavior

While you may think that your coworkers or supervisors are just trying to be humorous, an inappropriate, sexually offensive joke may be considered a form of sexual harassment. More direct language can be a more obvious sign of sexual harassment. If any unwanted contact is made, you should report this immediately.

Sign #3: You Are Invited to Events Outside of Work by Yourself

Even if your supervisor frames the event as a work-related event, you should be especially wary of any invitations that result in you and your supervisor spending a large amount of time by yourselves outside of the workplace. These invitations may be an unwanted advance under the guise of a work-related event.
